Portie finishes at 16-under-par 197 to win 2010 RMO

Ben Portie’s consistency is what sets him apart on the golf course.

Sunday at Tiara Rado Golf Course, Portie finished with a 1-under-par 70 to push his three-day total to an impressive 16-under-par 197.

That performance was good enough to win the 72nd Enstrom’s Rocky Mountain Open.

Tiara Rado’s new No. 10 is visually appealing

Bobby O’Hara honed his golf game at Tiara Rado Golf Course.

The 42-year-old Grand Junction native, and head golf professional at Lincoln Park Golf Course, has played “The Rock” enough times to know what he was suppose to do on every hole.

Saturday during the second day of the Enstrom’s Rocky Mountain Open, O’Hara stood in the new No. 10 tee box a tad perplexed.

Positive changes help RMO grow in size

Nobody is going to waltz to a victory in the Enstrom’s Rocky Mountain Open.

With the addition of Bookcliff Country Club, a newly renovated back nine at Tiara Rado Golf Course and a new online registration system, the field of professional players at the RMO inflated to 124 players for this year’s three-day tournament.

Those numbers have translated into one of the largest and most talented fields the RMO has seen.

Big News for 2010 RMO!!!
Monday, 03 May 2010 00:00

We’re excited to share some wonderful news!

Beginning in 2010, the Enstrom’s Rocky Mountain Open will be held at Tiara Rado GC & Bookcliff CC.

What a credit it is to the City of Grand Junction,  the members and board of directors at Bookcliff CC that they continued to show interest in the ERMO and that they worked together to find a way to host the oldest “open” tournament in the state on two championship,18 hole golf courses - in Grand Junction.

  • Much work to is still to be done by Rob Stong, the City’s Director of Golf, Mike Mendelson, BCC’s head professional, tournament sponsors and by our board – but, you can just feel the excitement about what this means for the tournament and for the Golf Foundation’s ability to fund scholarships.
  • We also hope to enhance the relationships with the Colorado Section PGA and the Colorado Golf Association to promote the ERMO as a premier state/regional event.
  • And if we all didn’t think that was enough . . . the City is in the process of a $3,500,000 upgrade at Tiara Rado. WOW - - - can’t wait to see what happens when players tee it up on this baby!!
Stay tuned for more exiting news in 2010!
